Lawyer athletics

We like to keep you informed of news at our community’s schools and in that spirit, we bring you the John Marshall Athletic update. The community is welcome to support the neighborhood’s historic school athletic program by attending their home games and following them on Twitter @MarshallLawyers. The boys’ and girls’ basketball and wrestling schedules can be found here.

John Marshall Athletic Director First Semester Update

John Marshall High School Athletics have been through a very positive and successful first semester of the 2016-2017 school year.

Our fall sports were very successful in Senate League play. The John Marshall Lawyers placed third in volleyball, second in golf, second in soccer, and were league champions in girls tennis. Lawyer football showed great improvement, looking forward to the reopening of Lawyer Stadium in the fall of 2017.

Our success has continued into our winter sports. Boys basketball has travelled to Barberton for the Jack Greynolds Classic and played Pittsburgh Obama Academy in East Liverpool. Our girls basketball team is showing vast improvement with trips to the Chippewa Thanksgiving Tournament and Akron coming soon. Our bowling team stands at the top of the Senate standings. Wrestling and swimming are both very early in their seasons, but have very large turnouts with our students playing and working hard.

As it is easily seen, our John Marshall student athletes are doing wonderful things and traveling to new and different places. We are in the early stages of building a John Marshall Athletics Booster Club. We are in dire need to increase our funding to help our programs grow and compete, not just in the Senate League but all around Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio.

If you are interested in assisting in the growth and development of John Marshall High School Athletics, and help us put our Lawyers back where we belong, please contact me at joe [dot] gilbert [at] clevelandmetroschools [dot] org. We would love to have our community work with us in fundraising, booster club development, and in any other area we could use your time and talents.

I hope to hear from many of you soon — as always, it is a Great Day to be a Lawyer!
