Riverside Park Summer Day Camp

Program Assistant

 

The Bellaire Puritas Development Corporation (BPDC), in tandem with Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), is seeking an experienced educator/youth development professional for the position of Summer Program Assistant.  The program assistant will lead academic and enrichment activities for students in 1st-6th grade and assist with overall camp operations.  This position is located at CMHA’s Riverside Park Estates, located off Rocky River Drive.  The Program Assistant will directly report to BPDC’s Youth Development Director, and work closely with Riverside Park’s Community Center Manager and other BPDC and CMHA staff to implement the program. Hours are 9:00am-3:30pm Monday through Friday June 12th – July 28th, 2017.  Compensation is $15 per hour.

The position summary and details are as follows:

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision of campers to promote safety and positive engagement in camp activities
  • Implement daily lesson plans in math and reading
  • Lead physical fitness activities
  • Assist other activity leaders as needed
  • Develop strong relationships with campers
  • Supervise campers off-site on field trips
  • Supervise campers’ use of educational games and websites in computer lab
  • Provide direction to youth camp counselors
  • Assist with other aspects of program as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred. Some college required.
  • One to two years directly serving youth through teaching and/or conducting activities in out-of-school time programming
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations (racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, gender, age and education levels)
  • Excellent communication skills; oral and written and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated initiative to plan, organize, and implement services
  • Willingness to “jump into action” wherever necessary to accomplish required tasks
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Computer literate with the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must meet the criminal background check requirements to work in a State of Ohio licensed child care center
