Avoiding Scams

Our housing director is passionate about saving residents heartache and money and seeks out information on phony or misleading claims that you may have received.

For example:

There is a mailing going out from a company called ValueAppeal LLC, that claims they can lower your property tax and also gives a suggestion of how much the homeowner is overpaying in taxes (per individual house).

This company claims that you can PAY A FEE OF LESS THAN $100 and they can give you a report that can help you lower your property tax.

The County Treasurer’s Office can do the same thing if you file a form and send it to the Board of Revision between Jan 1 and March 31 where the homeowner can challenge the valuation of their property.

No one should pay for a service if one is provided for free.

More resources are available at the City of Cleveland’s Office of Fair Housing & Consumer Affairs.

Please contact Toni Jones, BPDC Housing Director, with any suspected scams so that she can be on the alert to help your neighbors by e-mail or call 216-671-2710 ext. 205
