P4SS at Artemus Ward

The Partners for Student Success (P4SS) Program at Artemus Ward School is available through a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. This grant provides for a comprehensive and intensive academic afterschool program located in the media center of the school. The purpose is to aid the principal, teachers, parents, and students in improving the academic growth of the participants in the program.

The program is available for all sixth, seventh, and eighth (6, 7, and 8) graders at Artemus Ward, R.G. Jones and surrounding community. The program runs from now until the end of the summer! Partners for Student Success (P4SS) begins at 3:45 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We provide hands on teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and academic accountability for our participants.

P4SS is sponsored by Bellaire-Puritas Development Corporation (BPDC) through a grant written and secured by the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association. The P4SS team at Ward consists of the Program Coordinator, Tammy Tucker, M.Ed., Math Tutor Educator, Tasha Fairly, and Language Arts Tutor Educator, Carmonita Williams. Also, on our team are Angela Bennett, who coordinates and teaches the Health Professions Affinity Community (HPAC) grant responsible for bringing project based learning skills to seek answers to health issues that affect our community and create solutions that may eradicate the health issue(s); America SCORES provides soccer and poetry/spoken word curriculum to participants in both elementary and middle school; Neil Chastain provides drumming lessons that infuse sustainability by using recycled items as instruments and helps each student understand the academics of music and mental ability; Angela Montgomery provides Zumba instruction to clear your mind, gain oxygen and free up your intellectual acuity and agility. Our team provides a holistic approach for students to use as resources to better their academics, attitude, and behavior.

The P4SS program must report on 40 students, but we accept participants year round. We are currently accepting applications from all middle school grades, but especially from 6th grade students. It is important to know that the P4SS does not provide the following:

1. Drop in baby sitting
2. Service for non-middle school students

We do provide:

1. Excellent academic support
2. A healthy nutritional snack
3. A safe place

If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Tammy Tucker. She is usually in the school from 10:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Mrs. Pecek’s office or the media center. Appointments may be arranged with notice.

P4SS participants from Artemus Ward pose with the new Cleveland Museum of Natural History expansion for Lights On Afterschool, a nation-wide afterschool celebration and advocacy day promoted by the Afterschool Alliance.
